SAFETY & SECURITY MEETING

Recently, the HOA called and hosted an open discussion about Crime, Safety and Security at the Stillwater HOA. Notice was published on www.stillwaterhoa.ca in early August 2024.

 

At 6:30PM, Tuesday September 10, 2024 at the HOA clubhouse, approximately 5 Members attended. Each person introduced themself and provided their personal observations and ideas regarding safety and security issues in the Stillwater area.

 CONCERNS RAISED

  • expense to repair vandalism & of damages, examples provided
  • cost to perform repairs detracts from operation of clubhouse, amenities, Rink, Spray park
  • HOA expenses may be addressed by fee increases, no increase planned until 2025
  • high risk times 2-5PM daily, 9-11PM, traffic on site = low/no damage,
  • high correlation between delinquent accounts & likelihood of on site damage
  • Tenant-occupied Properties correlation to risk
  • HOA mgt structure/ role discussion
  • ugliness and obscenity of graffitti
  • fence jumping, trespassers at site, unsightly premises, overgrown weeds and lawns,
  • disrespect for private property, 
  • damage to personal property and homes  
  • unsupervised kids – nonchalant parents, parenting skills
  • lack of adult presence/activities at HOA site
  • community problems similar to condos with security/ crime issues in garage, common or parking areas,
  • camera usage may not deter crime, Police not interested in video footage,
  • surveillance may create a “big brother” and privacy issues,
  • social issues: parenting skills, lack of affordability, financial pressures on homeowners might be linked to some of the undesirable behaviour,
  • HOA operations, finance
  • ETS bus stop location and behaviours, vagrancy & homelessness in area
  • Re-zoning application to build multi-family housing/ condos may contribute to undesirable traffic, crime
  • traffic and Transit noise, speeding

IDEAS

  • Trail Cameras, video surveillance
  • audible alarms at gates, doors
  • site lighting changes, site motion detectors,
  • wifi enabled video surveillance system
  • technology to identify users,
  • volunteer patrol, visibility for patrol, no arrest powers
  • budget friendly, $0 cost changes, 
  • Fines, monetization of damages to responsible offenders
  • replace fob access with Scan Card system,
  • admission by two factor authentication (fob + card, Fob+ code)
  • rink gate reader or lock,
  • Photo ID of users,
  • higher fence,
  • program cevelopment by independent Community League
  • Neighbourhood Watch program,
  • Use of City 311 App to report damage, vandalism, infractions
  • EPS liason program outreach,
  • Agent Program on site.
  • Volunteer involvement on HOA Board
  • No additional cameras/ surveillance
  • community parties / fundraising for Member-led inititives

FREE SKATE: All ages, all skill levels. Equipment, sticks, helmets, pucks welcome. Be courteous of other skaters.   NO SLAPSHOTS

BEGINNER: Toddlers, new skaters, inexperienced. NO sticks, no pucks.
INTERMEDIATE: Recreational skaters, varied levels of experience. Helmets recommended. Sticks, pucks allowed. Be courteous of other skaters. NO SLAPSHOTS

SUPER: Experienced skaters, equipment, sticks, pucks welcome. Share the rink, be courteous and cooperative BEWARE of flying pucks! 

ICE TIME/ HOSTED EVENTS

Cleaning Deposit: $150.00

Ice Time: $150.00 (3 hr max), by reservation only. No Events on Stat Holidays.
